Case Study - Fight Promo
Set
Since the promo is comprised of archive footage of real fights and real events, there aren't any sets used in the traditional sense. The sets are created to support actual sporting events rather than simulate fake ones. However the colour's throughout still follow a theme and consistent tone of blacks, reds and golds.
Lighting
The lights are quite brilliantly used sparingly in this promo. For the most part, everything is dark with spotlights used in places as a highlight. This creates a serious tone bit keeps a hint of showmanship and theatre which is naturally played up to sell tickets and Pay-Per-Views.
Composition
The promo jumps between wide shots and close-ups depending on where the archive footage is taken from. In the case of of the ring walk ins it shows the fighters closely and intimately and from a low angle making the fighters look strong and powerful. whereas when they are fighting they show a variety of close-ups of the action and wide shots to show both fighters.
Costume
Costume isn't used traditionally used in this promo, again, because it is comprised of archive footage of sporting events. Therefore the fighters are wearing appropriate sporting attire using the fights and then suits during the promotional events such as press conferences and weigh-ins.
Acting
With the promo being about real people and promoting a real event, everyone features in it as themselves. There is however an element of theatrics implied as the fighters and promoters are trying to sell tickets and pay-per-views. The talk about "being the best"
Special Effects
The main use of special effects in the promo is in the form of animated and computer generated titles. This is to make things grandiose and important looking. There is also a heavy use of colour grading to desaturate everything and make it look as dark and as sinister as possible.
